You can get the unlock code for free from T-Mobile.

A law was passed and enacated in 2006 that requires cell companies provide you with the unlock code for free, on request. Check out www.copyright.gov for more details on this.

They will ask you to provide them with the IMEI number of the phone (essentially, the electronic serial number). They will email the unlock code and instructions to you in a few days.
